is your attic well-ventilated?

The ventilation in your attic has a direct impact on how cool and warm you can keep your home. If you don't have a well-ventilated attic, the attic temperatures will cause the temperatures inside your home to increase during the summer and cause moisture problems in the winter. How much ventilation does an attic really need? Your local HVAC technician can help you inspect and determine if your attic is adequately ventilated. My blog will show you the basics about attic ventilation to give you a good idea of what needs to happen to keep your home comfortable and protected from moisture.

What Is Completed During An Annual HVAC Tune-Up And Inspection Appointment?

It is recommended that you have your HVAC system inspected, cleaned, and tuned up at least once a year. This is important as it helps to keep your unit functioning as efficiently as possible, while also helping to promote a healthy life and longevity for your heating and cooling unit. One of the questions that people often have about this appointment is what exactly an HVAC contractor does during an inspection and tune-up. Here are a few of the things that are completed.

Cleaning and Lubricating Coils, Hoses, Drains, and Moving Parts

One of the things that is done during an annual HVAC tune-up is cleaning and lubricating the parts within the unit. Some of the parts that are cleaned include coils, hoses, and drains. Some of the parts that are lubricated include moving parts. Cleaning the coils, hoses, and drains helps to ensure that there are no blockages or obstructions that can prevent the parts from functioning as they should. Lubricating moving parts helps the parts to move smoothly and efficiently.

Testing the Thermostat, Safety Controls, and Refrigerant Pressure

Another thing that is completed during an annual HVAC tune-up is testing out specific elements of the HVAC unit and system. While the thermostat is not a part of the HVAC unit itself, it does play a role in the HVAC system, and as such, that is tested. Additionally, safety controls are tested to ensure your unit is operating in a safe manner. Refrigerant pressure is also tested, as low pressure may indicate a leak.

Inspecting Hoses, Belts, Connections, Motors, and Fans

Finally, an HVAC contractor takes the time to inspect most of the parts within your HVAC unit during an annual HVAC tune-up. Some of the key components that are looked at include hoses, belts, connections, motors, and fans. A professional inspects these items to ensure they are functioning properly and to look for signs of damage. If any damage is noted, they will recommend making the repairs that are needed.

While an HVAC inspection, cleaning, and tune-up appointment does not take a lot of time, there is a lot of work that is done during the appointment. An HVAC professional takes the time to clean and lubricate components, test out components, and inspect parts within the system. This helps to catch any minor issues before they turn into major ones, ensures your unit is operating efficiently, and helps your HVAC unit last as long as it is designed to. If it has been a year or longer since your last HVAC tune-up, now is the perfect time to schedule an appointment.
