is your attic well-ventilated?

The ventilation in your attic has a direct impact on how cool and warm you can keep your home. If you don't have a well-ventilated attic, the attic temperatures will cause the temperatures inside your home to increase during the summer and cause moisture problems in the winter. How much ventilation does an attic really need? Your local HVAC technician can help you inspect and determine if your attic is adequately ventilated. My blog will show you the basics about attic ventilation to give you a good idea of what needs to happen to keep your home comfortable and protected from moisture.

Get a Better Understanding of Your HVAC And Repair Issues

There are many reasons why you don't want to take your HVAC system for granted. This can be easy to do when you have central heating and air conditioning because the system is so concealed and quiet. The good news is maintenance the system well doesn't take a lot of time, effort, or money. Here are facts you want to be armed with that can help with the care and repairing of your system:

1. Know the three main elements of your HVAC

The HVAC system pulls air in as it filters out particles. It will then heat or cool that air, then deposit it back in the house through registers. This means that you have three main elements to know about. One element is the filter that the air gets pulled through and it will need to be kept clean. Another element is the ductwork the air will go through and this system needs to remain clean and have no damages where the air can leak out. There is the condenser where all of the motor functions are and everything here needs to work right and be repaired immediately should something begin having issues.

2. Know the signs of things going wrong in the system

Now that you know about the three main elements of the system, you will have a better time spotting something that needs repairing. If the system was being used for a long period of time with a dirty and neglected filter, then the first thing that needs to be done is the filter needs to be replaced immediately, before the system continues being used. The ducts should be checked to make sure they are cleaned if they are now filled with a lot of dust and dirt. Other problems are usually indicated by the system not performing well or by it making noises. Anytime something doesn't seem to be working as it normally does, a repair technician should come look at the system.

3. Understand the importance of annual servicing

If you haven't had any problems with your HVAC then it's easy to decide to save yourself some money and not have it serviced that year. The problem is, not having it serviced can cause some major problems soon that can cost you much more than the maintenance service call would have. You should always have the unit looked over before using it for the year.
